A major winter storm is forecast to impact the Philadelphia and Baltimore regions this weekend (January 24–26, 2026), with lots of snow expected across much of the area, heavier totals possible north and west of the region, and a transition to an icy mix possible by Monday. Wind chills could drop into the single digits or below zero, creating hazardous travel conditions, potential power outages, and operational challenges for businesses.
Mid-Atlantic Propane Exchange wants is here to share practical tips to help your business stay safe, accessible, and ready during and after the storm.
1. Clear & Accessible Propane Storage Area
A clean, unobstructed cylinder cage/exchange area helps our drivers deliver quickly and safely.
- Remove snow and ice buildup around the cage so drivers can reach it easily
- Elevate cylinders on pallets or racks to keep them out of standing water and deep snow
- Ensure cage doors open fully and latches are not frozen or iced over
- Clear clutter, old pallets, trash cans, or debris from the delivery zone
2. Prepare the Delivery Path & Loading Zone
- Keep the path to your propane cage clear of vehicles, equipment, and accumulated snow
- If possible, mark the cage location with visible signage or cones (especially helpful in low visibility)
- Communicate any access restrictions or changes to your team before the storm arrives
3. Winter Storm Planning for Your Team & Operations
- Have backup generators or heat sources ready in case of power outages
- Ensure any outdoor heaters are on stable ground and away from flammable materials
- Stock up on extra cylinders now if you expect prolonged cold or heavy snow
4. Stay Informed & Monitor Conditions
- Check updates from the National Weather Service and local news for road conditions
- Be prepared for possible delivery delays — winter storms can impact even essential services
