A significant winter storm is forecast to impact the Philadelphia region and much of the Mid-Atlantic this weekend. Wind chills could drop into the single digits or below zero, creating hazardous conditions and potential delays for deliveries.
Mid-Atlantic Propane Exchange does **not** provide snow removal, salting, or ice management services, but we strongly recommend businesses take these simple steps **before the storm arrives** to ensure safe and timely propane deliveries.
Why Clearing Your Propane Area Matters
Our drivers must be able to safely reach your cylinder storage cage or exchange area.
If snow piles, ice buildup, or uncleared paths block access, deliveries may be delayed or rescheduled until conditions improve — even for essential commercial accounts.
Key Steps to Prepare Your Propane Storage Area
1. **Remove All Snow & Ice from the Cage**
– Clear snow drifts and ice from the top, sides, and around the cage so drivers can access it easily
– Ensure cage doors open fully and latches are not frozen shut
2. **Salt & Treat the Surrounding Area**
– Apply salt, ice melt, or sand to the ground immediately around the cage and the delivery path
– Create good traction for truck tires, hand-carts, and boots
3. **Clear the Delivery Path & Loading Zone**
– Plow or shovel a wide path (at least 4–5 ft) from the street/parking lot to the cage
– Remove vehicles, pallets, trash cans, or equipment blocking the way
– Keep fire lanes and emergency access routes open at all times
4. **Elevate Cylinders if Possible**
– Place cylinders on pallets or racks to keep them out of standing water, deep snow, or ice
5. **Mark the Location if Needed**
– In heavy snow, use visible cones, signs, or flags to mark the cage so drivers can find it even in low visibility
