1. Inspect Before Use
Always inspect the propane cylinder before connecting it to the forklift. Look for dents, rust, leaks, damaged valves, or missing caps. Never use a cylinder that appears damaged or out of date.
2. Handle With Care
Lift and move cylinders carefully using proper equipment or two-person lifts when needed. Never roll, drop, or drag cylinders. Rough handling can damage the valve or create safety hazards.
3. Connect Safely
Park the forklift on a level surface, set the brake, and turn off the engine. Wear appropriate PPE, check the O-ring and connector for damage, and hand-tighten the connection. Never use tools to force a connection.
4. Secure the Cylinder
Make sure the cylinder is properly seated in the mounting bracket with the locating pin engaged. The cylinder must be firmly secured before operation to prevent movement during use.
5. Work in Well-Ventilated Areas
Propane is heavier than air. Always perform cylinder changes and work in well-ventilated areas to prevent gas accumulation. Never change cylinders in confined or enclosed spaces.
6. Turn Off When Not In Use
When the forklift is not operating, close the service valve completely. This prevents unnecessary gas release and reduces risk.
