Bars & Restaurants: Keep Guests Warm — Safely!
Outdoor heaters and fire pits create a welcoming atmosphere, but a few simple safety steps can help ensure your patio stays safe all season long.
At Mid-Atlantic Propane Exchange, we want every restaurant and bar to enjoy a successful patio season while keeping safety as the top priority.
Before You Light Up
- Inspect propane cylinders, hoses, and connections for wear, damage, or leaks
- Verify cylinders are securely connected and stored upright
- Keep heaters and fire pits on stable, level surfaces
- Maintain proper clearance from umbrellas, awnings, decorations, and other combustible materials
- Follow the manufacturer’s lighting and operating instructions
During Service
- Never move or refill propane cylinders while equipment is operating
- Keep emergency shutoff valves easily accessible
- Train staff on proper startup, shutdown, and emergency procedures
- Monitor heaters and fire pits throughout service — never leave them unattended
At Closing Time
- Turn off all burners and close the propane cylinder valve
- Allow equipment to cool before covering or storing
- Inspect for any damage or maintenance needs before the next service
