April showers bring more than just flowers — they bring wet roads, reduced visibility, and increased driving risks. At Mid-Atlantic Propane Exchange, we want all our customers and their teams to stay safe on the road during this rainy season.
Here are some important rain driving safety tips to keep in mind:
Rain Driving Safety Tips
- Slow Down — Reduce your speed. Wet roads significantly decrease tire traction and increase stopping distances.
- Increase Following Distance — Give yourself at least 4–5 seconds of space between you and the vehicle ahead.
- Turn On Headlights — Even during daytime rain, headlights improve visibility for you and other drivers.
- Avoid Sudden Braking or Steering — Smooth, gentle movements help prevent skidding or hydroplaning.
- Watch for Puddles — Deep standing water can cause hydroplaning. If you feel the vehicle losing traction, ease off the gas and steer straight until control returns.
- Check Your Tires and Wipers — Make sure tires have adequate tread and wiper blades are in good condition.
A Note About Propane Deliveries
Wet and slippery conditions can make propane deliveries more challenging. Please help us keep our drivers safe by:
- Keeping propane storage cages and delivery paths as clear as possible
- Removing standing water or mud around the cage area when safe to do so
- Communicating any access issues or slippery spots in advance
